And with August comes thoughts of fall and muggy days, as well as, unfortunately, school. Whether its high school, college, or just a busy job, it can be hard to find time to spend with your horse, or at your favorite barn. But with these tips, your sure to find time to spend with your friend.
1. Plan Ahead! Schedule specific days each week to go see your horse. Mark it in your calendar and keep those days in mind when scheduling appointments and activities.
2. Don't let the weather stop you. Even if its raining still go see your horse, he'll probably enjoy a carrot on a dull, drizzly day. Don't be afraid to ride in the rain either, last time I checked, a little water is better than flies any day (or at least to a horse it is).
3. Multi-task! If you need to get some exercise, but so does your horse, try going for a jog down a trail with your horse (you are on foot, of course :]). The greatest thing about running with your horse is that if you get tired, you have a ride home.
4. Relax. Had a busy day? Spending time with your horse can be therapeutic, take advantage of that and unwind with him after work or school. A leisurely trail ride can relieve you of all your stress and nerves.
Hope you find these tips to be helpful and that you are able to spend lots of quality time with your furry (or is it hairy?) friend in the months to come. Fall is the perfect time to get some serious riding in after the heat and bugs of summer, and before the freezing temps and snow of winter.
Keep riding!
